Building a railway line to the future

SHANGHAI’S transport commission has issued its plan for the Shanghai section of a railway line connecting Shanghai, Suzhou in Jiangsu Province and Huzhou in Zhejiang Province. Songjiang South Station will be set up in Songjiang District.

The line links the Shangqiu-Hefei-Hangzhou high speed railway in the west and Shanghai’s railway hub in the east. The section inside the city covers 64.6 kilometers.

Aside from Songjiang South Station, it ends in Hongqiao and Shanghai South Railway Station.

In the future, Shanghai East Station and Liantang Station in Qingpu District may be integrated into the network.

Songjiang South Station will have two platforms and six lines. The designed speed for the city boundary to Songjiang South Station is 350kph and that for east of the station is 200 to 250kph.

Preparations for the line have started with contracts signed. A feasibility report has passed expert assessment and the related plan submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission.

It is the foundation for building up the Songjiang railway hub, which will have 12 platforms with 26 lines and is set to become the largest transport hub in the southwest of Shanghai, integrating Metro lines, trams, long-distance passenger routes and bus routes to form a transfer hub.

Songjiang, an important gateway in southwest Shanghai, is 30 kilometers from downtown Xujiahui, 25km from Hongqiao Airport and 68km from Pudong Airport.

Transportation hub

In the district, the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway, G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway, G1501 Shanghai Ring Expressway, S32 Shenjiahu Expressway, Metro lines 9 and 22, Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway and Shanghai-Hangzhou High-Speed Rail form a powerful transport network.

Songjiang is also speeding up construction of tram lines. All this makes the district easily accessible.

Metro Line 9 is a major route for Shanghai rail transit, connecting old Songjiang, Songjiang New Town, Songjiang University Town, Sheshan National Tourist Resort, Jiuting, Qibao Town, Caohejing High-tech Park, Xujiahui, Shanghai Expo area, Yuyuan Garden, Lujiazui CBD, Jinqiao Export Processing Zone and Waigaoqiao Bonded Area.
