Bumper rice harvest ahead

Golden paddy fields, bisected by small canals, extend as far as the eye can see. This looks to be a season of a bumper rice harvest.
Suburban Songjiang鈥檚 10,667 hectares of late-maturing rice is about ready to harvest. Due to lower-than-usual summer temperatures, the rice has matured by 10 to days later this autumn. Because of the longer growth cycle, knockout breeds such as 鈥1080,鈥 鈥淴iushui 114鈥 and 鈥淴iushui 134鈥 are looking very promising.
Songjiang鈥檚 barns and drying equipments are ready to receive the harvest. The local grain bureau has already signed contracts to purchase the whole crop. The district鈥檚 rice price this year has been set at 1.55 yuan (24 US cents) per 500 grams, a little higher than the average market price.
