Constrution projects off ground in Songjiang

SONGJIANG’S major construction projects are in full swing. This year the district is going to kick off about 20 projects on public infrastructure, social welfare and economic development, covering the renovation of old buildings, affordable housing construction, and building of more schools, hospital space and a better transport system.

Housing projects are among the government’s top priories this year, including a large community construction site on Songhui Road W. and the 650,000-squre-meter southern side of Sijing Town, where residents affected by the urban planning will be relocated.

Apartment renovation

By the end of March, a 68,000-square-meter renovation of old apartment buildings had been started. By the end of this year, more than 210,000 square meters of old buildings are to be renovated.

For social welfare, the government this year will provide home nursing care for 8,400 people, a process that is already nearly finished. Almost 70 percent of the planned standard cultural centers for old people are under construction and Songjiang No. 2 Social Welfare House is in the approval stage.

By the end of March, the district had created more than 9,000 jobs, finishing half of the yearly plan, and helped incubate 13 small enterprises.

This year Songjiang is going to establish new schools. Wencheng Kindergarten and Xinmin Kindergarten are 70 percent finished, and No. 4 Jiuting Primary School’s steelwork is basically completed.

In addition, video surveillance systems are planned in new kindergartens.

Hospital expansion

At the same time the expansion projects of Songjiang Hospital and Jiuting Hospital are going smoothly.

Fostering high and new technology industry is the focus of Songjiang’s economic development this year.

The China Textile and Clothes Brand Park is soon to be constructed. The first phase is planned with 14 buildings for fashion brand headquarters and a 60,000-square-meter landmark “Fashion Culture Center.”

The 335,800-square-meter new factory of PHICOMM (an information technology company) is being built.
