A team of 17 journalism students from Shanghai International Studies University based in Songjiang University Town flew to the United States to get first-hand experience in covering a political campaign. They worked with journalists in Washington DC, New York and Pennsylvania, covering the 2012 presidential election and sending reports back to China. Some worked as special correspondents for domestic media such as Jiefang Daily, Renmin Daily and the ifeng.com. The Shanghai project is repeated every four years during US election campaigns.
