Disabled entrepreneur gets digital pick-me-up

Many would-be entrepreneurs have grandiose dreams. Chu Zhongqiu is among those who is putting his ideas into action.

Chu, who is a paraplegic, owns an e-commerce company and a cutlery store on the website Taobao. The store became profitable three months after it started.

Chu designed the website, produces product pictures and provides customer service. He learned the skills in an e-commerce training program for disabled people wanting to start their own businesses.

鈥淚 worked online from 9am to 10pm every day,鈥 said Chu. 鈥淪ometimes it would take me two hours to answer all of a customer鈥檚 questions, and then I was never sure it would result in a sale.鈥

A customer in Guangdong Province placed the first order 鈥 for 60 fruit forks.

Chu later started his own e-commerce company to help manage start-ups for other people.

A rosewood furniture company became the first client.

鈥淚 hit a low point when I lost my legs in a car accident,鈥 Chu said. 鈥淚 stopped talking to people and suffered terrible headaches. But now, I鈥檓 much more confident and have become a decent public speaker. My online store and e-commerce company changed my life.鈥
