District’s economy keeps up good pace
Songjiang’s economic growth has fluctuated between 5 percent and 6 percent this year, maintaining a general upward trend, according to official data.
In June, district gross domestic product growth edged down to 6 percent from 6.1 percent in May. However, the Songjiang Statistics Bureau said growth is expected to show a significant gain after some weakness in August.
Industrial upgrading, agriculture and the services sector are underpinning growth, the bureau said.
SME thriving
Small and medium-sized companies are also thriving. The bureau said the district is transferring its weight from some tycoon enterprises to these SME.
The district reported revenue of 25.6 billion yuan (US$4.18 billion) in the first nine months of the year, a rise of 7.7 percent from a year earlier.
Urban resident disposable income increased to an annual 30,170 yuan, while the income of rural villagers stood at 16,963 yuan.
Efforts are underway to improve the social security system, along with government spending on employment, education, medical services and housing. A project to renovate more than 10,000 square meters of old houses is expected to start by the end of this year.
