Entering an eighth year of service to residents

THE Songjiang Public Service Center, which provides locals with various one-stop services, such as marriage registration, new company documentation and legal advice, recently celebrated its seventh anniversary.

Among achievements last year, the center made strides in cracking down on underground lawyers who were bilking clients without legal training.

After receiving public complaints about bogus lawyers, the center's staff opened a special window offering free legal advice by licensed lawyers and legal workers. In 2012, it handled more than 500 cases.

Since last April, the center has worked with East China University of Political Science and Law to offer additional legal advice to any needy Songjiang resident.

More services

Meanwhile, the district's social securities bureau, workers compensation department, labor agency and civil affairs bureau have all opened branch offices in the center.

The Qin Yuan Workroom is a non-governmental organization helping couples with marital problems.

Licensed psychologists give advice on mending marriages or seeking divorces. There is also a special service for abused wives.

In addition, pre-marital physical exams, pregnancy tests and passport services are available at the center.

At the end of last year, 18 government departments, one law firm as well as a rehab center had opened branch offices there, according to the center officials.
