Holiday fun mixed with a little learning
IT'S holiday time for students, and Songjiang District is trying to ensure that there are plenty of activities to delight their imagination and fire up their curiosity.
Outside a 5,000-year-old tomb, the Guangfulin Heritage Site in the district is hosting students from the Huangpu District in their first archaeological experience.
The project, co-sponsored by the Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV, will involve 1,300 students from 24 elementary and middle schools in Huangpu. The students will have access to areas of the excavation site closed to the general public and can watch archaeologists sifting for relics of the past.
Songjiang Library has launched a series of activities to encourage reading. They include sessions on Confucius classics, storytelling and folk arts. There will also be a children's movie festival, features including cartoons and popular comedies screened free of charge.
The Zhongshan Community in the district has initiated a holiday program for children that include craft workshops, singing songs at homes for the elderly and visiting the local fire-fighting department.
The community also is sponsoring what it calls a "dream chasing" project that invites middle school students to write a letter to their future selves and asks high school students to make short videos or paint pictures about their dreams for the future.
