In the mood for a getaway? Head to countryside!
SONGJIANG is promoting itself as a countryside tourism destination.
A tour book is being compiled to focus on points of interest along the southern banks of the Huangpu River. Fresh air, natural forests, vast green fields, hot springs, fruit and vegetable farms and a great number of public gardens will be highlights.
“The rich natural scenery and ecological environment are the trump cards we are playing,” said the director of the local tourism bureau. “We are going to build the area into a giant countryside park, offering urban dwellers a getaway in the city.”
Concurrently, local festivals throughout the year, celebrating events like the blossoming of lotus, peony and chrysanthemum, add to the visitor calendar.
At the same time, Songjiang is aiming to turn itself into a major center for film and television production. That’s also a great attraction for tourists.
More investment
This July, Shanghai Film Park in Chedun Town, with set designs based on 1930s Shanghai, received a 2 billion yuan (US$298 million) investment from Germany’s Studio Babelsberg, a leading European film and TV producer.
The money will be used to upgrade the park, enhance technical expertise and train staff. There will also be collaboration on co-productions.
Last month, Chedun was listed as one of “China’s 127 Unique Towns” by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China. Shanghai has three towns on the list.
The town boasts not only the film park but also ancient architecture from Ming (1368-1643) and Qing (1644-1911)dynasties, which has been preserved.
In addition, Songjiang’s Sheshan Hill, its University Town and its multitude of picturesque rural villages have been top choices as shooting locations for many film and TV productions. Fans are often keen to visit the sites where their favorite shows were shot.
The local tourism bureau said Songjiang received almost 1.3 million visits last year, churning 146 million yuan in revenue.
