Migrants are fairly content in new home
SIXTY percent of 250 migrant workers in the Songjiang District said they were pleased with their life in the greater Shanghai metropolitan area, according to a recent survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics.
More than half of respondents said they like their work and a third said they are satisfied with the income they are receiving.
They listed "social equality" as their top issue, though a third of respondents said they had received fair treatment in their work and daily life.
About 68 percent said they are satisfied with the city's efforts to integrate migrant workers into local communities.
However, almost two-thirds of respondents said they are in bad need of medical care and health insurance.
More than 60 percent of the migrants surveyed were working in factories and 72 percent have been living in Songjiang for more than three years.
