More trains stop at Songjiang rail station

Millions of migrants planning a railway trip back to hometown during the upcoming Spring Festival will get more frequent train service at the Songjiang South Railway Station, as two extra trains are stopping at it according to a new schedule released by the China Railway Corporation recently.

This year the Spring Festival starts on January 31.

According to the new timetable, D105 and D2283 trains running from Shanghai Hongqiao Station to Changsha Station in central China and Shenzhen North Station in South China were put into service as of December 28.

Both trains stop at Songjiang South Station and transfers are no longer necessary for those who travel from Songjiang to the two cities.

Meanwhile, travel time has been greatly reduced between Shanghai and northeastern parts of China with 30 new pairs of bullet trains put into operation.

High-speed trains are available for the first time from Shanghai to Harbin, Chang-chun, Shenyang and Dalian, four major cities in northeastern China.

The G1204/1, for example, is a high-speed train that travels from Shanghai Hongqiao Station to Harbin West Station in 12 hours and 57 minutes, saving as much as 18 hours and 36 minutes compared with the previous train routes.

According to an officer at the Songjiang South Station, it takes no more than 15 minutes to get to Shanghai Hongqiao Station from Songjiang, with 15 trains available running between the two stations every day from 8am until 8pm.

An increase in passengers at the Songjiang South Station is expected as faster service eases travel.
