Mums the word at annual floral fest
ZUIBAICHCHI Park held its annual chrysanthemum festival a bit earlier this year, with displays of more than 5,000 pots and over 200 varieties this month.
Since 1972, when chrysanthemum planting began, Zuibaichi has hosted more than 40 exhibitions of this autumn flower, which symbolizes purity, friendship, nobility and longevity in China.
Among the blooms on display this autumn are some rare varieties, including a blue chrysanthemum and one that contains green, yellow, pink, red and blue in one flower.
The park’s 300-meter main street was a special treat to walk along. It was flanked on both sides by chrysanthemums.
There were also displays of potted chrysanthemums in the park’s various ancient halls, pavilions and rooms. They were sometimes configured into the shapes of elephants, mushrooms, tropical fishes and dolphins.
Horticultural experts were also on hand to give lectures on how to plant chrysanthemums at home.
