New electric buses in clean air drive
Songjiang plans to replace 228 dilapidated buses with new energy models this year.
The new fleet will include 111 electric buses, 63 running on natural gas and 54 diesel vehicles. Fares on the new buses won’t rise, the bus operator said.
Bidding to supply the buses began earlier this month, according to the Songjiang Public Transport Co.
The new electric buses will be capable of speeds of up to 80 kilometers. A new battery size will consume only about 75 kilowatt hours of electricity for every 100 kilometers of travel – half the consumption of electric buses currently in use.
All the new energy buses will have seating capacity for 56 passengers.
Songjiang plans to install 87 charging poles this year at bus stations and maintenance yards. An LNG station will be set up in May at the Guangfulin Public Bus Maintenance Station. After completion, the station will be able to service 200 LNG buses at one time.
