Record price hit
A piece of Gu embroidery by Zhang Li, a third generation artist in the technique, a cultural heritage native to Songjiang District was sold at 338,888 yuan (US$55,906) to a private German collector at the 19th International Heritage Show at the Louvre, France in early November. It is the highest price ever paid and the first overseas order for Gu embroidery work. The work features guanyin, or Avalokiteshvara.
