School has a power station on rooftops
Songjiang’s first campus with self-generated power has made its appearance in Xinbang Town.
Each year, Xinbang School, using a photovoltaic power station, also known as a solar park, on its rooftops, can save about 114 tons of coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 300 tons.
A digital screen on the first floor of the school’s administration building shows live data from the rooftop PV power station.
“Xinbang School’s rooftop PV station has a total area of about 3,000 square meters, covering four buildings’ rooftops including the teaching building for primary school part, the library, the canteen and the gymnasium,” said Zhao Jixing, the school’s headmaster.
The rooftop PV station is currently being run by Shanghai Nengjing Energy Co, which designed and built it.
Li Jianqiang, project manager of the company, said the electric capacity of the station is about 300 kilowatts and its expected annual electricity output can reach 310,000 kilowatt-hours.
Xinbang School is constantly paying attention to green development and ecological progress. “The rooftop PV station can not only help save electricity costs of about 30,000 yuan (US$4,397) for the school every year, but also raise students’ awareness on environment protection,” said Zhao.
When constructing the rooftop PV station, Shanghai Nengjing Energy Co also adopted some advanced technologies.
During the survey stage, it used drones and 3D modeling. Potential safety hazards were reduced since there was no need for workers to climb on the roof to take measurements.
