Songjiang Tsingtao Beer Festival

Beer and lots of it! What’s not to like about a hot summer?

This festival features great brews, beer tastings, drinking contests, interactive games, local foods and more than a dozen live shows. There are also merchandise stalls operated by various breweries.

The seventh annual festival is on from July 16 -26 at Songjiang Citizens’ Square, just south of the offices of the district government. It is sponsored by Tsingtao Beer, one of the oldest beer producers in China. There’s no admission fee.

All the beer served at the festival comes fresh from the factory on the day, according to sponsors.

What better companion to a cold glass of beer than great food? The festival is offering specialties from around China, including drunken chicken, roasted oysters, brochettes and seafood.

It also has gathered music talent from Shanghai and other parts of China to entertain festival-goers. This year, disk jockeys and electronic music artists will be in the spotlight each night, beginning at 6:30pm. Performances will start with rock and shift to blues and jazz after 9pm.

Last year, the Songjiang Beer Festival attracted 76,000 visitors, who consumed 87 tons of Tsingtao beer.
