Branches said to come from the original apple tree that legend says inspired Isaac Newton (1642鈥1726) to discover the law of gravity have been successfully grafted onto an apple tree in Chenshan Botanic Garden.
A Shanghai Science and Technology Association delegation visited the United Kingdom in March and brought back five branches from the apple tree in Newton鈥檚 garden at Woolsthorpe Manor. The chief arborist of Shanghai did the grafting himself.
In fact, various trees are claimed to be 鈥渢he鈥 apple tree that led to Newton鈥檚 brainstorm.
