Tram system in the works

Songjiang plans to become the first district in Shanghai to operate a public tram, with six lines already on the drawing board.

The tram lines, currently coded from T1 to T6, will extend over 90 kilometers of track, with 118 stations and eight transit points.

The lines will connect with local Metro and bus stations, and extend into some areas not currently served by public transport.

Construction work on the first two lines is scheduled to begin soon.

T1 will run from New Songjiang Road to Xinqiao Road in Xinqiao Town, linking with the Songjiang Sports Stadium Station on Metro Line 9 and the Xinqiao Station of Metro Line 22.

T2 will begin at Sanxin Road N. and end at Rongle Road, connecting with the Songjiang University Town Station on Metro Line 9.

The T6 line will link the Sheshan Hill Station of Metro Line 9 with Minhang District.

The district is seeking public feedback on the tram system.

Those wishing to make comments may call 6247-3288, extension 0448, or email masj@supdri.com.

The suggestion period is open until October 6.
