Tramcars to join transit mix

Construction will begin this August on two tramcar lines in Songjiang, according to the district Road Transport Bureau.

The T1 Line will run about 17 kilometers with 21 stations, connecting the Sports Center Station of Metro Line 9 and the Xinqiao Town Station on the Jinshan Railway. The T2 Line will be 12.2 kilometers long with 15 stations, providing a link to the University Town Station of Metro Line 9.

The 3.1 billion yuan (US$506 million) construction project is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2016, and public services are expected to begin in 2017.

According to the broader transport blueprint, the district’s tramcar network will tie in with six bus lines and 118 bus stations, stretching 90 kilometers to connect the Jinshan Railway and Metro lines 9 and 12.

Parking lots in Chenta Road, University Town, Zhongchun Road, Beisong Road and Xinqiao Town are also planned.
