Two towns get priority status
CHEDUN and Sijing were recently designated “national key towns” by the China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
That means they will receive priority in government planning.
To achieve that designation, a town must meet certain criteria, such as population, geographic advantage, economic growth potential, future development and management ability.
Chedun will be transformed into a town featuring old Shanghai architecture. It will cover 2.8 square kilometers, traversed by Beisong Road.
Sijing, with a history of more than 1,000 years, will be turned into link with the Hongqiao area by Metro Line 9. On the eastern side of Husong Road, industrial parks will be built, while the western section of Henggang Road is designated for office buildings. The town’s Xiatang Village will be renovated to develop tourism.
