Yes, Metro system still expanding
WITH the eastern extension project of Metro Line 9 to begin operation this year, Songjiang residents will find it easier and quicker to travel to the Pudong New Area across the Huangpu River.
The extended line will run from the original eastern terminal at the Yanggao Road M. Station, past Luoshan Road and Jinqiao overpasses to Jinhai Road. It will then continue over the S20 Highway and Pudong Canal before reaching its terminus at Caolu Station on Jinzuan Road.
The underground line will have nine stations. Passengers can transfer to Metro Line 14 at the Biyun Road Station and to Metro Line 12 at the Jinhai Road Station. Metro stations for lines 9, 12 and 14 will share a public parking lot in the Jinqiao area.
When completed, the entire Metro Line 9 will be 70 kilometers, linking the South Songjiang Railway Station, Songjiang New City, downtown Xujiahui, the Lujiazui financial hub in Pudong, the Century Avenue traffic hub, Jinqiao Export Processing Zone and Caolu Town communities in the east.
“By 2020, Shanghai will have a railway traffic system of 850 kilometers,” said Yu Guangyao, chairman of the Shanghai Shentong Group. The city plans to construct nine new lines spanning 216 kilometers in the next three years.
