1st known liliger born in Siberia

THE world's first documented liliger, offspring of a lion and a tiger, was born last month at the Novosibirsk Zoo in eastern Siberia, Russia. The female cub Kiara made a brief debut.

She was placed in a separate facility after her tiger mother Zita stopped producing milk after giving birth. She was fed on a special milk mix until she was adopted by a household cat, Dasha. Kiara's father is an African lion. Zoo visitors will be able to see Kiara in October. Liligers are sometimes known simply as ligers.
