A yellow sea of flowers brightens Wuyuan
THANKS to its rape flower blossoms, Wuyuan County in Jiangxi Province is one of the most popular travel destinations in China during spring. Close to Yellow Mountain, the place is a nice combination of a temperate climate and the great outdoors. Wuyuan and nearby Yi County are both part of the historic region of Huizhou, once one of the country’s most important economic and cultural centers during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. They are still home to many ancient Huizhou-style buildings today. The simple black-and-white designs make a nice backdrop to the bright yellow flowers. The best time to see the flowers in Wuyuan and Yi counties is from mid-March through mid-April. But be prepared, the place will be packed with visitors, especially on weekends. Shanghai Daily photographer Zhang Suoqing leads the way.
