Ballet good for whole family

The Russian fairy-tale “Snow Maid” has touched generations of children. Now, a children’s ballet based on it and presented by Moscow State Academic Music Theater is coming to China for the first time.

The show will be on Sunday at Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

The “Snow Maid” ballet is an early work of Marius Petipa (1818-1910), who is known as the father of modern classical ballet.

The fairy-tale tells a romantic and sentimental story of a girl made of snow who falls in love with a shepherd. However, her body starts to melt away when she is in love.

With fantastic choreography and exquisite costumes, the show is worthwhile for both adults and children.

More than 20 of the young dancers are veterans who have won many awards in Russia.

Around 100 ballet outfits of various types will be presented. Every dancer has two to three sets of costumes. The show will also mix classical ballet garb and traditional Russian customs to create an authentic and artistic stage effect.

Date: August 11, 7:15pm

Venue: Shanghai Oriental Art Center, 425 Dingxiang Rd
