Born in the 1950s - Susen Dutta, 58

Indian Susen Dutta, 58, has lived in China for more than eight years. He now serves as general manager of LCL Logistix (China) Ltd, a logistics company.

Dutta, who has been in his field for many years, decided to come to China because of its “growing economy and opportunities in the logistic sector.”

He’s happy with his decision.

“Overall, it’s good and peaceful here, and there is none of the hostility toward expats that we experience in many Western countries,” Dutta says.

He says he has been most impressed by this nation’s “socio-political discipline.”

Dutta says he has plans though he may not call them big dreams.

“This is not the age to dream, but rather to focus more on life around us,” he says. “However, I have a plan to start my own business here, which I have been dreaming about for the last two years or so.”

He says he has done enough of translating others’ dreams into reality, so now it’s time to pursue what he wants to do.

“China is still the biggest workshop of the world and will continue to be so for the next 20 years or even more,” he explains.

He says he would like to enter a joint venture with some Chinese entrepreneurs he personally knows.

Of course, that requires up-front investment and strategic decisions, which are still obstacles, he says.
