Chinese ministry joins for US show
ORGANIZED by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, “Happy Chinese Spring Festival — Art China” will feature a cluster of light installation, public artworks and fireworks that will light up the skyline in New York on its iconic buildings such as the Lincoln Center and the Empire State Building from February 17 to 24.
Big names include Xu Jiang, Xu Bing, Zhan Wang and Chen Wenling.
This is also the first time China’s Ministry of Culture has invited the Central Academy of Fine Art to curate and design such a big project. For example, the Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center will display stainless sculptures created by Zhan and 400 lotus sculptures made by Xu Jiang, while the David Rubenstein Atrium, also at Lincoln Center, will showcase animation work and video by Xu Bing, Chen Wenling and Lu Shengzhong.
A fireworks gala will be performed over the Hudson River at 7:30pm on the Chinese New Year’s Eve that will be live broadcast by WABC radio, accompanied by music written by Guan Xia, a famous Chinese musician.
The light installation will also be screened outside the Empire State Building every three minutes on February 17-18.
