Exhibition features varied palette
ARTS lovers of the city are presented an array of recent works by emerging artists and designers from all over the world at the "Art At the Edge 2012," a program hosted by International Channel Shanghai.
The event features not only a contemporary art exhibition, but also an artists' salon and a music carnival. Chinese artist Lu Yuanhua is exhibiting his representative abstract oil paintings while British artist Christopher Pearson brings his new creative installation artworks.
Pearson's resume includes designing a 3D roof screen for Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 building and installed glass screens containing delicate 3D laser etchings in the First Class Galleries Lounge at the airport.
Mexican-born artist Gabriel Dawe's colorful Plexus installation explores the artistic elements of textiles and embroidery. Dawe says he loves using unexpected material of textiles in new and interesting ways.
Inspired by his grandmother's embroidery and sewing, the piece at the exhibition is made out of gutermann thread, wood and nails attached at either end to blocks of wood. It is also a reminiscent of his childhood in Mexico, says Dawe.
Dutch product and interior designer Thomas Eurlings's "Fading Mirror" has a printed gradient under the glass to give a soft-focus reflection. The mirror's blurry edges reflects a rather dreamy image of its surroundings.
According to the organizers, ICS's "City Beat" will also invite the artists to share their own understanding of "the edge" and experience in art creation.
