Expo an emblem of good fortune

THE mascot and logo of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) were unveiled yesterday at the National Exhibition Center in Shanghai.

The mascot, a cute giant panda wearing a blue-yellow scarf embroidered with the logo of the CIIE, is called Jinbao, which sounds very similar to jinbo, the abbreviation of the CIIE in Chinese.

Jinbao also means “treasure of the CIIE” and “bringing in wealth.”

The panda is jumping with a four-leaf clover in its left hand, which is believed to be a symbol of good luck. Its right hand is waving to welcome guests from all over the world.

The four-leaf clover represents the National Exhibition Center, where the expo will be held.

The color of the scarf, yellow, stands for the Silk Road Economic Belt, while blue stands for the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

The panda is a national treasure of China and the “calling card” of the country.

Pandas are adored by all for their lovely, cute chubby image, and they are an emissary for friendship, contributing to the benevolence China shares with other countries and regions.

The CIIE logo is made up of the Earth in the middle, the light-blue ring surrounding it, the name in Chinese and in English and the abbreviation of the expo.

The green China on the Earth embodies the development idea that “clear water and green mountains are mountains of gold and silver.”

It means that the CIIE will focus on the ideas of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development.
