First shop in newly erected Central Arcade

THE first shop open for business in the new building known as the Central Arcade, at 77 Szechuen Road, at the corner of Kuikiang Road, is the Hairdressing Salona and Barber Shop of J. Yamada, who until recently operated the Valet Salon at 18-B Nanking Road.

With the removal of the temporary board screen on Szechuen Road, the public got its first glimpse of the attractive appearance of the new building with its clever arrangement of shops facing the streets and arcade, which leads from Kuikiang and Szechuen Roads straight through to Edward Ezra Road and which later will extend to Nanking Road.

The shop of Yamada began its popularity immediately with the patronage of businessmen who lost no time in taking advantage of the opportunity of conveniently located service, even though there were but three chairs installed and operating. Within three or four days Mr Yamada expects to have his shop entirely equipped and in complete working order for his patrons.

Having the advantage of two frontages, Mr Yamada is devoting that part of his shop facing Szechuen Road to the patronage desiring tonserial service, while facing the arcade is a section reserved for ladies.

A foreign lady will be in charge of this part of his shop. She has had much experience in shampooing, marcelling manicuring and permanent waving.
