Greenland concerts getting close to nature and music

LOVERS of nature and music are in for a rare treat as the Greenland Classical Music Concert series returns to Shanghai’s Chenshan Botanical Garden in suburban Songjiang District.
The annual concerts on the lawn, now in its seventh year, offers local music lovers a rare opportunity to enjoy classic orchestral scores while enjoying the comforting, beautiful scenery.
Famous orchestras from all around the world were invited to perform at the event in the past, and this year is no different.
The Sound of Rhine, which gathers artists from the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and WDR Radio Choir Cologne, will perform on May 19. The ensemble will play well-known pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms.
The concert will also feature special performances by young Chinese pianist Zhang Haochen and violinist Yang Tianwa.
On the following night, the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra will stage a concert entitled “Praise of Love.”
Renowned Chinese conductor Chen Xieyang will team up with soprano Xu Lei and violinist Nancy Zhou to perform a series of songs about love. And representative works of master composers Giacomo Puccini, Edward Elgar and Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky will get new interpretations.
Prior to each night’s concert, there will be percussion performances by local ensemble Groove Papa.
The two-day outdoor event will also provide family-friendly interactive programs to arouse children’s interest in classical music. Kids will be able to play different kinds of instruments and learn how they work.
