'Journey to the West'

AFTER a four-year hiatus since his last major film, "CJ 7," Hong Kong comedian Stephen Chow releases his latest production, a remake of the classic "Journey to the West."

Based on one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese Literature of the same name, Chow's version is a contemporary remake of the misadventures of a Buddhist monk Xuanzang as he makes a pilgrimage from China to India. The monk traveled to the "Western Regions" during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) to obtain sacred texts (sutras).

The bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guanyin), on instruction from the Buddha, gives this task to the monk and his three protectors in the form of disciples - namely Sun Wukong (Monkey King), Zhu Bajie (Pigsy) and Sha Wujing (Friar Sand) - together with a dragon prince who acts as Xuanzang's steed, a white horse.

These four characters have agreed to help Xuanzang as atonement for their past sins.

Meanwhile, Xuanzang also discovers the true meaning of Greater Love himself. In order to atone for their own sins and save the lay people, the four of them embark on a journey to the west that's full of challenges ...
