Keeping your home healthy and dry

DAMP weather is not only bad for people but also for rooms, closets, clothes and electric equipment.

Mold tends to grow in warm wet environment, so keep your rooms and closets dry. It's important to fight mold because inhaling can cause health problems.

Short circuits are more frequent in this season as damp penetrates electric lines. Again, keep it dry.

Tips to protect home and health

Rooms

Air rooms according to the weather. Letting damp air in won't help; air rooms when it's relatively dry and sunny.

Use packets of soda lime desiccant, quicklime, charcoal or even cat litter to absorb moisture in the air. Distribute around a room.

Use the AC in dehumidifier mode.

Clean the AC to remove germs.

Closets

The same dehumidifying room principles apply.

Use pieces of soap or dry tea bags to help remove the mold smell and add fragrance.

Wash clothes before putting them away in closets and drawers. Only put away dry clothes.

Use mold- and moth-proofing products.

Electric appliances

Turn them often or keep on standby, which keeps them warm and dispels damp - but this also uses energy.

Washing machine

It's best to move the washer out of the bathroom, the dampest room - if possible.

Others

Roll up rugs or carpets and they get moldy easily.

Keep the garbage bin outdoors, dispose of garbage frequently.

Clean the kitchen often.

Defrost the fridge often.

Ventilate the bathroom during and after taking a bath or shower.

Clean the air-conditioner regularly.
