M1NT on right track with Grand Prix party

FOLLOWING the thrills of the Chinese Grand Prix last weekend in Shanghai, the closing party for the Formula One Chinese Grand Prix was held last Sunday night at top club venue M1NT on the Bund.

Partygoers, who included F1 drivers and models, were entertained by performers and DJs.

Proceedings began at around 9:30pm and the party reached the heights with a sensational performance by Montreal, Quebec-based burlesque star Scarlett James.

F1 drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa from Ferrari and Nico Rosberg from Mercedes were among those partying at M1NT.

"We are not merely holding a party, but creating a concept of culture in this town for high-end consumers," said Elena Chatzikonstantinou, the founder of Code 20, the organization behind the avant-garde Grand Prix closing events.

Code 20 specializes in crafting a unique atmosphere at events where drivers, teams, special guests and sponsors meet to enjoy a spectacular evening following a hectic weekend at the track.

This was the 4th time that M1NT had hosted the Shanghai F1 week event, collaborating for the second consecutive year with Code 20 as the Grand Prix after-party partner.

"Shanghai hosts some of most important events in the world. All of us are very proud of this," said Alistair Paton, Chief Executive Officer of M1NT Shanghai.

Since opening in 2008, M1NT has sought to stand out by hosting prestigious international activities, as well as being top venue for many other major events taking place in the city.

When the club first opened in Shanghai, people in China didn't drink a lot of champagne, instead preferring whisky and wine, said Paton.

"We started to push our customers toward the champagne culture. Less than five years later, we are now the second biggest seller of Dom Perignon in the world - which is one of the sponsors of this Grand Prix event," he added.

Party organizers invited burlesque star Scarlett James to give an exclusive performance - dressed in a "Maison Burlesque" theme to create a unique atmosphere that would awe even the most jaded globetrotters.

"This was my first time to Shanghai and I gave an exclusive performance at the F1 closing party in M1NT," said James. "I was so excited about that!"

James' show combines various elements of dance, fashion and comedy.

Every one of her costumes is handmade and unique, based on her own ideas. Each takes James and her mother between four to six months from start to finish.

For the Grand Prix show at M1NT, the burlesque queen danced inside a giant crystal Martini glass.
