Maroon 5 promises 'amazing' Shanghai show

AMERICAN pop rock band and Grammy winner Maroon 5 is set to blow the roof off the Mercedes-Benz Arena on September 25.

Returning to Shanghai after four years, the band will play hot singles such as "Moves Like Jagger" and "Payphone."

"We have amazing fans in Shanghai. The audience was insane last time, singing along to all the songs, every word," says Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. "They are one of the best audiences to perform for."

The bank has packed a lot of new songs and classics into the Shanghai show.

"We have a high-intensity rock concert full of all the songs the fans want to hear from the last 10 years," Levine adds.

Maroon 5 arrives in electrifying form, following a string of live performances and international hit singles. With its hook and strutting beat, 2011's "Moves Like Jagger" is the most successful release of the band's career so far. At No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a month last year, it has sold more than eight million copies and become one of the best-selling singles of all time.

The band won a Grammy Award in 2005 for best new artists and others in 2006 and 2008 for performances.

The band is returning to Shanghai mid-way through a tour with shows sold out throughout the United States, South America and Asia.

Its fourth and latest album "Overexposed" was released in June and features "Payphone," "One More Night" and the ballad "Beautiful Goodbye." It's an album of slick song craft and immediate melodies.

"Overexposed" was developed by the team that worked on "Moves Like Jagger" and the band was challenged to try different things.

"We're very happy with this record. We put out music we like and hope the fans like it too. It means everything to us when we get that reaction from them," he says.

Maroon 5 has included cameo singles by Christina Aguilera, Wiz Khalifa and Rihanna.

Levine has been featured on recordings by Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Gym Class Heroes, demonstrating an array of influences from hip-hop to soul to punk-rock.

Levine has also found fame as a coach on the hit American reality TV talent show "The Voice."

Maroon 5 has a new Sina weibo account (http://weibo.com/officialm5) featuring news for Chinese fan as well as updates on upcoming shows, releases and special offers. Levine says the band will definitely interact with fans on weibo.
