Mickey Mouse stages talent show
SINCE talent shows are all the rage, Disney characters are getting into the act. Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Goofy and Donald Duck are staging a variety show.
"Disney Live," a stage show of children's favorite cartoon characters, will unfold at the Shanghai International Gymnastic Center from July 13-15. It's a brand-new story and characters from different stories will share the stage.
Children in the audience will be able to join the party.
"Just as Mickey and Minnie start their journey, the audience is off on a dramatic adventure. Anything can happen and anything is possible," producer Alana Ford says.
The story begins when Mickey and his friend decide to stage a talent show. Mickey is the director, Minnie the costume designer, Goofy the choreography and Donald is responsible for special effects.
They realize they need a lot of performers and set off on a talent hunt, traveling in Mickey's magic bus. They visit countryside, desert, mountains, palaces and magical spots.
With the touch of a magic button, the magical bus is transformed into a hot air balloon to soar over mountains and a submarine to cross the ocean.
"The audience will find familiar characters and music from different stories together in the show," says director Jay Smith. "We hope children in the audience can join the party with their favorite characters, such as Cinderella and Tigger."
Colorful and modern costume will replace the traditional costumes of some classic characters. Mickey will exchange his red outfit for red-checked shorts, a stripped shirt and tie and a pair of athletic shoes. Though Cinderella shows up in her classic ball gown, the Fairy Godmother will replace it with a glittering one-piece decorated with pink flowers.
"I want the colors to be bright and happy, belonging to innocent and happy children," costume designer Scott Lane says.
The characters will reveal heretofore unknown talents. Cinderella will tap-dance, Tigger will perform hip-hop and other characters will perform the cancan and folk dances.
