Musical sitcom on girls, money

THE musical comedy "Women Must Have Money" will be staged in Shanghai starting November, and producers hope for a run of 100 shows.

Inspired by the well-known book "Rich Dad Poor Dad" (2001) written by Robert Kiyosaki, the drama explores differing urban views on wealth, marriage and values. It elaborates on women's attitudes about love and money, happiness and independence.

It involves a "self-made girl" living on her own, an "underprivileged girl" who scrips and saves and a "girl with a sugar daddy" who relies on men for her well-being, says director He Nian.

Wang Hao, a local musician famous for composing and singing songs in Shanghai dialect, is the musical director for the drama, and he also stars in the show. This is his first effort at composing for stage.

"It's challenging because it's improvised. You need to produce music at night based on what actors perform in the daytime ... It aims to be euphonious and promotes an air of excitement," Wang adds.

Venue: People's Grand Theater, 663 Jiujiang Rd

Tickets: 100-580 yuan
