New installation celebrates the Year of the Dog
SHANGHAI Xintiandi has released a New Year art installation at the South Block Plaza to celebrate the Year of the Dog.
The 5-meter-tall main installation created by American artist David Flores is shaped like a bulldog. Flores says it was inspired by his pet dog named Tomodachi.
Choosing bright red as the dominant tone, the artist says he wants the dog to transmit an outburst of enthusiasm and festive atmosphere of the coming Chinese Lunar New Year.
The food plate in front of the bulldog is equipped with an LED reactor. When people hug and kiss each other or take selfies around, the installation will light up. A wish wall has also been set up where visitors can write a wish and hang it up.
The installation will remain at the plaza till March 5. During the weeklong Spring Festival holiday which runs from February 15 to 21, traditional dragon and lion dance and other cultural events will also be staged.
Date: Through March 5
Venue: South Block Plaza, Xintiandi
Address: 123 Xingye Rd, near Madang Rd
