Ningbo lures talent and investment
NINGBO launches its annual talent, science and technology week starting next Friday to attract skilled professionals from China and abroad as well as investment to the rapidly developing coastal city.Pan Zheng reports.
Ningbo is building itself into a city of creativity and "green" innovation, attracting professionals from China and overseas, funding cutting-edge science projects and persuading businesses to invest and settle down.
2012 Ningbo Week of Talent, Science and Technology gets underway next Friday at the Ningbo International Conference and Exhibition Center and runs through September 24.
Last year's talent week proved to be a huge success, attracting more than 4,000 enterprises and public institutes. Meanwhile, more than 40,000 people participated, among whom over 13,000 professionals and highly skilled technicians landed jobs.
During the week, agreements were reached on 83 scientific cooperative projects with a total investment of 1.37 billion yuan (US$216 million). Four high-level innovation teams agreed to settle in the city of Ningbo.
This year is expected to be even better and the event has built a reputation as a high-end communication platform for professionals, according to the organizers.
Talent attraction
Major efforts are made to attract professionals to the city.
First, organizers have invited more than 700 domestic enterprises and public institutes with 8,000 job openings, and more than 7,000 graduates of 100 major colleges and universities across the country. More than 200 well-known human resource agencies in the Yangtze River Delta, Beijing and Guangzhou are offering over 1,000 vacancies with annual salary of over 150,000 yuan each.
Second, more than 300 overseas professionals in search of funding will introduce innovative project ideas to 500 enterprises, innovative parks, universities and science research institutes.
Third, the China Scientific Entrepreneurship Plan Competition will award innovative and sustainable projects. Prize money totals 7.9 million yuan. Competitors will present their project plans and answer questions from professionals in business, startups, science and technology. Outstanding projects will be promoted at the talent week.
Scientific cooperation
During the upcoming Ningbo Week of Talent, Science and Technology, High-tech Achievement Fair and International Industrial Design Exposition will be held.
The high-tech fair will invite 150 domestic universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises. Achievement on advanced manufacturing, intelligent city, biomedicine and patents will be on display. More than 500 high-tech projects will be displayed.
The 2012 Ningbo Industrial Design Exposition will feature more than 200 foreign and domestic design institutes and R&D teams, presenting more than 1,500 creative works.
Tours to Ningbo enterprises and industrial centers will be organized during the week.
A forum on the topic of developing a sound environment to nurture professionals will be held. The 2012 Ningbo Professionals Blue Book will be released at the forum.
