Places to pedal on May Day holiday
WITH spring in bloom, bicyclists can celebrate May Day holiday along various city and country routes, enjoying blossoms, greenery and quaint villages in rural areas, as well as interesting urban roads.
Wukang Road
Known for vintage architecture, elegance and tranquil atmosphere, Wukang Road connects two of the busiest and trendiest streets, Hengshan and Taojiang roads. Between the two, Wukang is peaceful and inviting.
Among the pleasures of Shanghai are the sudden changes from a bustling, modern street to one that retains the elegance of old Shanghai and its history.
Wukang Road is around 1km long, lined on both sides by European Style houses, some the former residences of famous figures such as writer Ba Jin (1904-2005). At 376 Wukang Road houses the Ferguson Lane, a pedestrian complex containing more than 10 boutiques and small, fashionable cafes.
Renting a bike
Bikes can be rented at a tourism center at 393 Wukang Road, by providing an ID card, 300-yuan (US$47.55) deposit and 100 yuan cash that is credited to a rental card.
Rental is free for the first 10 minutes, 2 yuan for an hour and 4 yuan for two hours. There are many bike-return stations in Xuhui District, such as Hengshan Road, Tianping Road and Caoxi Road N.
Sheshan Hill

Riding to Sheshan Hill from downtown is difficult; a better way is to take Metro Line 9 and get off at Sheshan Station. Rental stations are near the Metro.
Along the road from the Metro station to Sheshan Forest Park there's plenty of attractive scenery as well as the Moon Lake Sculpture Park and Chenshan Botanic Garden. They are all open to cyclists.
