Promo film about romance in romantic Suzhou

THE city of Suzhou, famous as an ancient watertown, is promoting its classical and modern beauty with a micro film (wei dianying) "In Love@Suzhou" and a new edition of the guide book "The Allure of Suzhou."

The short film, which tells two love stories, premiered last Friday at the Jinyi Cinima in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.

At the premiere last week, a performance of Chinese sand painting and guzheng (Chinese zither) was staged before the micro-film. The version of the book "The Allure of Suzhou" was also released.

The idea of the film is "Love him, love the city." It follows a young woman, Han Meimei, from Singapore who goes to Suzhou seven years after her ex-boyfriend left her and moved to Suzhou for work. She decides to explore the ancient city, discovers its real beauty and falls for local photographer Li Lei.

"I came to Suzhou because of love, so love stories are the theme of this film," says director Chen Quan, adding that most of the cast are locals. "This is a city where you can find true love.

"Through the movie, we are presenting the special allure of the city."

The film is produced by I-Suzhou Studio and Suzhou Front Media.

Wang Yanhong, deputy director of CPC Suzhou Publicity Department, says the film depicts a youthful and charming city that is both modern and historical.

"Just as Singapore girl Han Meimei says in the move, 'This is a charming city and it makes people feel happy,' The film shows both modern and ancient sides of Xuzhou, perfectly presenting its 'allure'," Wang says.

The film can be viewed at Sohu.com, Sina.com and Youku.com.

Meanwhile, a new edition of "The Allure of Suzhou" was released by I-Suzhou Studio after the first edition of 13,000 copies sold out in six months.

The 58-yuan (US$9.20) pocket book is a guide to sightseeing spots, heritage sites and entertainment venues in Suzhou. Around 50,000 copies have been printed and are available at bookstores.

After the success of the books promoting Suzhou and Tongli canal towns in Jiangsu Province, the team is now working on a book about Changshu, also in Jiangsu.
