Sheshan beckons with forest tourism carnival

THE 2025 Shanghai Sheshan Forest Tourism Season kicked off recently, inviting visitors to explore the autumn wonders of Sheshan Hill.

Visitors can explore the Sheshan Observatory, enjoy the Yuehu Sculpture Park and admire the exotic flowers and plants at the Chenshan Botanical Garden. They can also embark on an exciting journey to Shanghai Happy Valley, all while following in the footsteps of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Ten fitness stations have been installed at the resort in collaboration with Shanghai University of Sport, allowing guests to practice baduanjin (八段锦 a traditional Chinese wellness exercise), yoga and zumba.

The monthlong carnival will feature a fantastic array of events.

Hanfu forest concert

Experience the elegance of wearing hanfu while enjoying ancient-style music and immersing yourself in the blend of traditional culture with the beauty of nature.

Handmade incense experience and aromatherapy workshop

Capture the essence of the autumn forest! Discover the intriguing steps of incense making.

As you gently stir the essential oils blended with flowers and plants, the fragrances combine to create your own exclusive, limited-edition incense.

Mobile art gallery

Using a bus as a mobile art gallery, it will transport high-quality art resources into the Sheshan forest and link various art installations. This initiative will allow tourists to appreciate the beauty of art while enjoying the natural surroundings.

‘Sounds of the Forest’ project

Staff take professional equipment into Sheshan to capture bird songs, insect chirps, and the sound of wind, producing a unique natural sound album.

‘Magic in the Forest’ plants DIY

Use a small hammer to imprint natural patterns onto cloth bags or fabric fans. Feel the veins of fallen leaves and the softness of flower petals to appreciate the natural textures of plants. Through this hands-on creation process, you will experience the diverse sensations of nature!

Note: Visitors are welcome to bring fallen leaves and fruits from their community or roadside to Sheshan for these handmade activities. Please leave the fallen leaves and fruits of Sheshan Forest for small animals that need them to survive the winter.

Tea ceremony gathering

While exploring tea culture, visitors can grind tea powder, prepare Song Dynasty (960-1279)-style tea soup, and create “tea paintings” (patterns made on tea). As fall arrives, experience the tranquility and restorative power of the forest infused with the aroma of tea. Savor the freshness of autumn with Sheshan’s rich tea.

The Sheshan TCM activity is also ready! Experienced TCM physicians will assess your physical condition using traditional palpation techniques in the East Sheshan Garden.
