Star-studded lineup for red carpet

MORE than 400 celebrities will walk the red carpet at the Shanghai International Film Festival’s opening ceremony tonight. Among them will be French actor Jean Reno, Italian actress Maria Cucinotta and Chinese mainland filmmaker Feng Xiaogang.
Film crews from around 30 new productions will also participate in the festival.
Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, whose credits include “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days” and “Graduation,” will chair the jury for the coveted Golden Goblet Awards.
He will be supported by Chinese director Cao Baoping and screenwriter Li Qiang, US/Macedonian filmmaker Milcho Manchevski, Japanese director Hiroyuki Tanaka, American producer Gary Michael Walters and Chinese actress Xu Qing.
The jurors for the documentary category is led by Iikka Vehkalahti of Finland, Kazuhiro Soda from Japan and Du Haibin from China.
American animator and film director Tony Bancroft, Japanese director Junji Kobayashi and Chinese screenwriter Yuan Mei will judge the animation category.
A total of 14 feature films will vie for the Golden Goblet Award, including Japanese entry “Reminiscence,” “Brigsby Bear” (USA), “Fault Condition” (Romania), “I’m A Killer” (Poland), “Kharms” (Russia), “Mad to be Normal” (Britain), and German film “My Brother Simple.”
Danish director Bille August’s war epic “The Chinese Widow” is the opening film.
There will be 14 film forums that discuss topics ranging from Shanghai film policies, new generation of Chinese filmmakers in the international market, audience database and the developing trends of Chinese film industry.
The Internet Film Festival is also a highlight. Veterans from both online and traditional film industries will gather and exchange views on Internet film investment, marketing and production at summits.
