Sun Kil Moon mastermind to stage

Mark Kozelek, the American singer, songwriter, producer and front man of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters will stage at Mao Livehouse on July 15.

The performance will be his first in Shanghai on his first China tour.

Kozelek was the lead singer of the seminal 1990s San Francisco slowcore-sadcore band Red House Painters. Today he's the band leader of Sun Kil Moon. He also performs solo under his own name and runs an independent record label Caldo Verde.

Widely respected, he is a hero to younger musicians as varied as Erlend Oye, Connor Oberst and Jason Molina.

Kozelek's first album "Down Colorful Hill" was released in 1992.

"Among the Leaves" is his fifth album under the Sun Kil Moon moniker, played almost entirely on nylon string guitar, singing playfully about his life as a musician while retaining the melancholic spirit of his 20-year catalog.

Time: July 15, 8pm

Venue: Mao Livehouse, 3/F, 308 Chongqing Rd S

Tickets: 120 yuan/US$18.84 (at door), 80 yuan (student)
