Take heavenly trip to snowy mountains

Related Photo Set

THE glacier-covered Tianshan Mountain range near Urumqi is a landmark in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The range, meaning “heavenly mountains” in Chinese, is famed for unique features and biodiversity, including awesome snowy landscapes, vast forests, highland grasslands, crystal clear water at Tianchi Lake and red bed canyons. The best season to savor the beauty of the mountains is June to August, a brief summer with a picturesque view of lush grasslands, blooming flowers, and cows and sheep against snow-capped mountains. Early December and late February are good times for snowy sightseeing. The mountain range, including Tomur, Kalajun-Kuerdening, Bayinbukuke and Bogda, was placed on the World Heritage by UNESCO in 2013. Urumqi is about five hours from Shanghai by air.
