Top artists from around the world, and all that jazz
Jazz fans get the chance to see some of the world’s top jazz performers as the 5th Shanghai Conservatory of Music Jazz Festival hits Shanghai today through Wednesday.
More than 20 concerts, 50 master classes, nine seminars and workshops will be featured at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and online.
Initiated in 2007, the biennial festival aims to connect local jazz fans to the best jazz in the world. This year’s festival, “Jazz East Rhythm,” will highlight masters like four-time Grammy winner, the composer and conductor Gordon Goodwin, saxophone master Rosario Giuliani, percussionist Ron Savage and trumpeter Mike Steinel.
Together with about 30 overseas musicians and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Jazz Orchestra, Goodwin will present a Carnival Concert on Wednesday at the Heluting Concert Hall.
All the seminars, master classes and concerts in the festival will be livestreamed on six popular online platforms including Inke, Panda and Douyu, to reach a wider audience.
Online viewers can pose questions throughout the livestreaming, which will be answered by experts and musicians.
A free music video game “King of Music,” which challenges players’ sense of tone and rhythm, will be released at the festival.
It is targeted at ordinary people interested in music, and the data from the players’ performances will be collected as a reference for improving music education.
