Olympic horse gets stem cell therapy

RAVEL, a horse competing in the 2012 London Olympics, underwent stem cell therapy treatment to help heal a possible career-ending leg injury, according to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in California.
Ravel, a top-scoring horse on Team USA, is a regular client of Rodrigo Vazquez of Equine Surgical Services at the center. He is believed to be the first Olympian to benefit from a stem cell-based treatment.
Scientists hope to use stem cells to treat a number of diseases and ailments in humans and non-humans. To repair horses' cartilage and tendon tissues, scientists have been looking into stem cells derived from bone.
