Classical music concert goes outdoors

THE annual greenland concert at Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden provides a chance to enjoy both classic orchestral pieces and beautiful scenery.

On May 17, the two-hour concert hosted by Shanghai East Radio Company will feature a dozen scores from well-known musicals.

The prestigious Italian Bellini Opera will perform the beautiful aria “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s “Turandot,” and “Song of a Toast,” a famous passage from the “The Lady of the Camellias.”

Renowned Chinese pianist and conductor Xu Zhong will be invited to conduct several scores. Huang Mengla, one of China’s most promising young violinists, will present a new interpretation of Paganini’s “Variation on Moses Theme.”

Xu Zhong says that most of the pieces are selected from well-known Italian musicals, but they will be newly interpreted.

According to the event’s organizers, the outdoor concert is more light-hearted and caters to the tastes of the whole family.

Enjoying classical music on the expansive lawn has become popular among young people.
