鈥楩ire of Anatolia鈥 to light up local stage
TURKISH dance group “Fire of Anatolia” holds two Guinness World Records — one for the fastest dance performance, with 241 steps per minute; and the other for the largest audience, with some 400,000 people reportedly turning out for a performance in Eregli, Turkey.
Next month, the wildly popular and widely traveled troupe will blaze a trail into Shanghai, where it promises to dazzle local audiences with a passionate performance inspired by the history and culture of Anatolia.
Established by choreographer Mustafa Erdogan in 1997, “Fire of Anatolia” is one of the largest dance companies in the world, with a roster of around 120 performers.
The group’s acclaimed two-act show is adapted from the legend of Prometheus, a fire-stealing character from Greek mythology, and fuses folk performance elements from Turkey and the Balkans with ballet and modern dance.
Since its stage debut in 2001, and the start of its first world tour in 2002, the group has performed in front of millions of viewers in dozens of countries, including the US, the UK, France and Japan.
In a previous visit to China, the group also performed during the 2013 CCTV Spring Festival Gala.
