Glassware art on exhibit
Treasures of contemporary glassware art are exhibited at the Taiwan Trade Fair this week.
"The Proof of Awareness" and "Spring of Housesleek" are presented by Liuligongfang Museum, a company founded by former Taiwanese actress Loretta Yang and her husband Chang Yi.
The museum, which is made of glass, displays ancient and contemporary Chinese and European works.
The couple gave up celebrity nearly 25 years ago to pursue their love of contemporary glass art. The two pieces, as well as other creations, represent the fusion of ancient and contemporary Chinese glass art culture.
"Proof of Awareness" is a huge, transparent peony in full bloom, a milestone in Yang's creations.
"In our earlier stages, we focused on reflecting the dazzling hues of glass," says Chang. "But see this peony flower - we try to diminish all the colors, only leaving clear and transparent ones, as the emptiness and transparence revealing the essence of Buddhism are the upper level of life."
Yang's signature works are Buddhas and blossoming peonies that she subtly and intricately fuses the essence of Chinese culture into glass.
Besides the two pieces, the fair also display some glasswares featuring dragon and glass accessories.
Date: Today, 9am-5pm
Venue: Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, 1099 Guozhan Rd, Pudong
