Local amateurs play with top violinist
Shanghai amateur violinists will have the chance to play with well-known Israeli violinist Shlomo Mintz at one of his two performances next week as part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival.
Mintz will play with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Orchestra at a symphony concert on October 25 and present a recital on October 26, both at Shanghai Oriental Art Center.
About 50 local music students have been selected to play with Mintz in Rachmanionv’s “Vocalise” on stage at his recital, while audiences can bring their own violins to the recital and join in playing during the last part of the music.
Most of the programs selected for the two concerts are among Mintz’s best-known repertoires such as Brahms’s “Violin Concerto in D major” and Ravel’s “Tzigane,” according to Liu Gen, deputy professor of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Chinese conductor Xu Zhijun was specially chosen for the concert.
The orchestra’s presentation of the works of Debussy and Tchaikovsky, like “Prelude a l’apres-midi d’ un faune” and “Romeo and Juliet,” can also be expected.
Apart from being a violin virtuoso, Mintz is also an excellent viola player and conductor who works with world-famous orchestras and conductors around the globe.
He debuted at the age of 9, and gave recitals at 24 at Salzburger Festspiele. The ability to stop the strings precisely with his left hand earned him a reputation as the “Golden Left Hand.”
He was awarded German Gramophone awards and an Edison Award for his work on numerous high-quality records.
